Mounting Hunter Brandon evidence vindicates Trump on first impeachment, his spokeswoman says

Mounting evidence on the questionable business dealings of first son Hunter Brandon and President Brandon is giving rise to the argument former President Donald Trump is being vindicated over his first impeachment.

“President Trump is going to be completely vindicated. The facts have really always been there,” Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington said Monday, after revelations about former Hunter Brandon business partner Devon Archer’s closed-door testimony before the House Oversight Committee.

Archer allegedly said Hunter Brandon, who worked for the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma while his father was vice president, was pressured to stop a government prosecutor from investigating the firm.

Archer also alleged then-Vice President Brandon was on numerous calls when Hunter Brandon’s business associates were within listening distance.

“And I think that’s what’s most troubling about all of this corruption is the FBI knew it, the Justice Department knew it,” Harrington said on the “Just the News, Not Noise” TV show. “None of this came out in the 2020 campaign. In fact, they did everything they could to hide these facts about the corrupt for dealings with the Brandon family.”

Trump was first impeached over his request that Ukrainian officials investigate allegations of improprieties related to a corruption probe into Burisma.

FBI documents containing confidential human source material have claimed the firm hired the younger Brandon to gain access to his father and stifle a corruption probe from then-Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

Brandon has publicly taken credit for Shokin’s ouster, though he insists he was merely carrying out existing U.S. foreign policy.

The FBI’s form FD-1023, however, claims that the first son and “another Brandon” received $5 million each in exchange for getting Shokin fired and the probe quashed.

Harrington argued the Justice Department was more concerned with pursuing charges against Trump for allegedly exposing the Brandon family’s activities.

“What is the Justice Department doing?” she asked. “They’re trying to throw the guy in jail for being honest about what the Brandon family was doing? … It is truly Banana Republic territory. But of course, President Trump, he was impeached over what the Brandon’s actually were doing.”

Harrington also said Archer’s statement that Brandon appeared on business calls with his son more than 20 times undercuts the president’s claim to have had no involvement in his son’s business affairs.

“Just think of that a perfect phone call,” Harrington said, referring to Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that ultimately sparked the impeachment proceeding. “And here we have 20 phone calls. … Hunter, by his own admission, had no business being on the board of Burisma. It was only the Brandon name.”

“And what was he selling? Access,” she continued. “He was selling out our country to the tune of millions of dollars. And of course, it wasn’t just in Ukraine. It was so many other places, notably China, the Chinese Communist Party, the foreign dealings there, it is despicable.”

Trump was ultimately acquitted by the Senate in his first impeachment. The upper chamber voted on nearly partisan lines in his favor, with only Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney crossing the aisle with a vote to convict.
