In a surprising twist, mainstream media (MSM) network NBC has admitted that the Democrats are the original election deniers. The outlet, alongside other MSM channels, had previously accused the Republicans of the same.
A Nov. 7 op-ed by author Lev Golinkin, which was published on the NBC News website, expounded on this claim. He talked about how Democrats refused to accept the results of the 2016 presidential elections, which former President Donald Trump won.
“Democrats need to be honest about the consequences of their actions after the 2016 election,” Golinkin wrote.
“Trump’s mendacity is arguably the Second Big Lie. Four years earlier, the Hillary Clinton campaign and leading Democrats refused to acknowledge the outcome of the 2016 election by claiming that Trump was not a legitimate president.”
The refusal to recognize Trump’s victory began early, as Clinton declined to give a concession speech on election night and waited until the next morning instead. By then, her campaign was already formulating a strategy to cast doubt on Trump’s legitimacy.
According to Golinkin, the failed Democratic candidate “was not shy in offloading responsibility for her catastrophic loss.” The former First Lady blamed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former President Barack Obama, former Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein, the MSM, racism, sexism and even women. “But all that was secondary to the overarching narrative – that Trump was an ‘illegitimate president,’” the author stated.
The NBC op-ed mentioned that Clinton was not alone in condemning the results of the 2016 election. Prominent Democrats also joined the former secretary of state in denying Trump’s victory.
“He lost the election and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf,” former President Jimmy Carter said in 2019, referring to Trump.
“I don’t see Trump as a legitimate president,” remarked the late Georgia Rep. John Lewis in 2017, three years before his death in 2020. “I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected.”
Hillary Clinton now denying the results of FUTURE elections
A video posted on social media ahead of the midterms only bolstered the failed presidential candidate’s continued denial of election results – even if they are yet to happen.
In a video posted on Twitter by grassroots organization Indivisible Guide, the former First Lady warned that “right-wing extremists already have a plan to literally steal the presidential election” in 2024. Thus, she called on supporters to “take the fight to MAGA Republicans at the the state level.” (Related: Hillary Clinton already denying results of 2024 presidential election.)
Clinton warned that the “right-wing controlled Supreme Court” would ultimately grant state legislatures the power to overturn presidential elections. Incidentally, many state legislatures have a Republican majority.
“If that happens, the 2024 presidential election will be decided, not by the popular vote or even by the anachronistic Electoral College, but by state legislatures,” she said.
Clinton then urged her supporters to donate to her “crush the coup” campaign “to help defend democracy” as “this could not be more important or more urgent.”
Prior to her denial of Trump’s 2016 victory, the former First Lady had also criticized the results of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections – which former President George W. Bush won. She remarked in 2000 that the younger Bush was “selected, not elected.” In 2005, Clinton remarked that there were “many legitimate questions” about the previous year’s election.
Golinkin ultimately lamented that Clinton and top Democrats “were supposed to be the adults in the room, the ones who placed democracy above all else.” Unfortunately, they “grievously failed” and this misstep is now being used by the GOP to “devastating effect.”
“Until we truthfully admit our mistakes, any attempts to reassure voters about election integrity will be framed as nothing more than hypocrisy,” he concluded.
